One for the books
Big day at our house recently ... Nicholas got his first Scholastic book order form from school. Actually, it was sitting on the counter and we had to pick it up, but still. It immediately brought me back to my own school days - way back in the dark ages - and the days the Scholastic forms would arrive. Such possibilities! All those books, at my fingertips, mine just for the ordering (and wheedling some cash from the folks). This was of course pre-Internet, which brings everything to your fingertips.
As we move into the paperless age, I'm glad Nicholas didn't miss old-school Scholastic books. There's nothing like that day when the books come in and you get what you picked (or, in his case, what we picked) and you go home and dive in to some new reading.
We picked out an Olivia book, some early readers and a bear book illustrated by one of my favorite children's book artists. Nicholas loved them all. I hope he always does, and I hope those book orders come home for at least a few more years. If not for Nicholas, Scholastic, would you do it for me?
